The Or Vishua Hesder Yeshiva offers a unique framework for young men who wish to combine comprehensive Torah studies with their obligatory IDF army service. For their first two years at the Yeshiva, students are absolve from army service in order to immerse themselves in the world of Torah and Jewish learning. Beyond the expansive study of basic Torah literature (Gemara, Halacha, Tanach), a major part of the study course at the Yeshiva is devoted to the historical and philosophical study of the Jewish people, their role in history, their fate and their obligation to humanity. Or Vishua Yeshiva students study about their implications of their IDF service both from a Halachic standpoint (all the complications that may arise both on the battlefield and off it) and the deep significance of Jews being able to defend themselves in their own sovereign land following millennia of exile. When Or Vishua students recruit for the army stretch over their 3rd and 4th year at the Yeshiva, they are full of motivation and devotion to the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and their commanders have frequently commented on their exemplary soldiermanship. On the fifth year of their studies, the young men, now much matured by the hardships and challenges of army service, return to the Yeshiva for their final year of Torah studies. During this final year, the Yeshiva places special emphasis on training for future leadership roles and civic involvement in Israeli society as a whole. Many of our students, who have come a long way over their years of study, become engaged and marry during this last year, establishing their own families on the foundations of a deep and lively Jewish identity and loyalty to the young Jewish State. |

Young Jewish high school students from France visit the Yeshiva in early December. The students heard lectures in their own language, met their Israeli peers and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch. |
